Miele Dishwasher F14: Heater Pressure / Circulation Fault
F14 means the machine isn’t seeing the water pressure it expects at the heater during circulation. The heater on a modern Miele is a flow-through unit on the circulation path; a pressure sensor confirms water is moving through it before and while it heats. No confirmed flow — no heat, and F14.
What’s actually behind it
In Contra Costa’s hard water, the frequency order we see is:
- Scale on the heater pressure sensor — the sensor port crusts over and reads wrong.
- Circulation restriction — scale and grease narrowing the path, or a spray-arm blockage raising back-pressure.
- Low water charge — a lazy intake (see F12/F13) leaves too little water for the circulation pump to pressurize.
- The sensor or heater unit itself failing electrically.
Can you do anything yourself?
A little: run an empty Intensive/75 °C cycle with Miele descaler (or citric-acid based cleaner) and make sure spray arms spin freely and their nozzles are clear. If F14 was marginal scale, that clears it. If the code returns on the next real load, stop — the sensor/heater path needs live-data diagnosis, and that’s authorized-tech territory.
We check actual circulation pressure and sensor readings through service diagnostics before replacing parts. Roughly half of F14 calls end as a heater-pressure-sensor replacement; the rest split between descale-and-verify and circulation-pump work.

Dishes come out cold and dirty with F14 — same fault?
Yes, that’s the symptom set: no confirmed circulation means the machine withholds heating.
Will a water softener prevent this?
It dramatically slows scale-related F14 and F24 faults. On unsoftened Pleasant Hill/Concord supply we recommend keeping the machine’s internal softener charged with salt and setting the hardness value correctly — ask us to verify the setting at any visit.
Is F14 dangerous to ignore?
It self-protects, so no flood risk — but you’re running cold washes and stressing the circulation pump. Book it.
