Miele W1: Waterproof Activation & TwinDos P1/P2

Two different message families that end up on the same service ticket often enough to share a page.

”Waterproof system activated”

Meaning: water reached the base pan and the float tripped. Same protection philosophy as the dishwasher’s F70 — intake locks, drain pump runs, machine refuses further cycles.

Do this: close both supply taps, let the drain pump finish, don’t tilt the machine, book service. Field sources on W1s, ranked: drain-pump housing and sump seals, a split internal hose, drawer-housing overflow from oversudsing (very real with non-HE detergent), and door-boot damage. The repair must find the source under pressure — a dried pan without a found leak is a two-week countdown.

One honest exception: a single activation right after a massive oversuds event, with a clearly foamed drawer housing, can be an overflow rather than a component failure. We still recommend an inspection, but we’ll tell you if that’s what the evidence shows.

TwinDos P1 / P2

Meaning: the TwinDos dosing path for cartridge 1 or 2 has a problem — empty cartridge the machine can’t confirm, crystallized UltraPhase in the nozzle/line, or the dosing pump.

Owner fixes that genuinely work:

  1. Reseat or replace the cartridge (P1 = UltraPhase 1, P2 = UltraPhase 2) and run the TwinDos maintenance/rinse from the Care menu.
  2. If the machine sat unused for weeks, detergent dries in the lines — the maintenance rinse with warm water per the manual clears mild cases.
  3. Persistent P-faults after both → dosing pump or line service. Quick job with OEM parts.

FAQ

Can I keep washing with a P1 fault?

Yes — dose manually in the drawer meanwhile. TwinDos faults don’t stop the machine.

Waterproof tripped but I see no water anywhere.

The pan is under the machine; you won’t see it. The float doesn’t lie — treat it as real.

Which UltraPhase cartridges fit?

UltraPhase 1 & 2 (and the Sensitive versions). We stock them on the van — ask during any visit.
